Twitter to remove free blue checkmarks from accounts starting April 1st

Accounts that still have the blue verification badge prior to the launch of Twitter Blue will now have to subscribe to maintain it.

On Twitter, the end of inherited blue badges:

For several months, Twitter users who have had the blue checkmark before the Elon Musk era knew that their verification badge was hanging by a thread. It is now official: this formerly free authentication mark for public figures, notable personalities, or official entities will disappear on April 1, 2023.

ccording to a statement from Twitter, starting from April 1st, they will commence the process of eliminating their previous verification program and the blue checkmarks that were inherited from it.

Subscription to Twitter Blue to maintain the badge:

Twitter users who wish to keep their blue checkmark will now have to subscribe to Twitter Blue, one of the subscription programs introduced by Elon Musk since his arrival. They will need to pay 8 euros per month. The announcement tweet from the social network also refers to the subscription page for Twitter Blue.

These blue checkmarks, inherited from Twitter before being acquired by Elon Musk, were previously free and awarded upon request. The new head of the blue bird had stated in December 2022 that these badges would be removed “in a few months”. The description of the blue badges had already changed in recent weeks, stating that a previously verified account “could be notable or not”. At the same time, Twitter announced that its Twitter Blue subscription program is now available worldwide.
