One such example is GPT-4, a language model developed by OpenAI, which is able to use various tools to answer questions and solve complex tasks.
GPT-4’s Ability to Use Tools with Minimal Instruction and List Necessary API Functions
GPT-4 is impressive in its ability to use tools with minimal instruction and no demonstrations. Even when presented with potentially conflicting information, GPT-4 is still able to infer the correct answer. In contrast, other language models, like ChatGPT, struggle to consistently change their answers even when instructed to use tools.
One notable feature of GPT-4 is its ability to list the necessary API functions needed to complete a task. For example, in Figure F.2 of the appendix, GPT-4 lists four API functions required to complete a task and proceeds to use them effectively.
GPT-4’s capabilities are not limited to simple tasks. When faced with more complex tasks, GPT-4 is able to use multiple tools in combination by relying on its understanding of the task at hand, identifying the necessary tools, using them in the correct order, and responding appropriately to their output.
