Gallup’s recently released “State of the Global Workplace: 2022” report paints a concerning picture. Workers worldwide are grappling with disengagement and unhappiness at alarming rates. A staggering 60% of people admit to feeling emotionally detached at work, with 19% reporting outright misery. Shockingly, only 33% of respondents reported feeling engaged—this is even lower than in 2020.

In the United States, the situation is equally grim. Half of American workers report experiencing daily stress on the job, 41% feel worried, 22% are sad, and 18% are angry. The pursuit of work-life balance, including increased remote work options, more generous time-off policies, and shorter workweeks, has not stemmed the tide of worker disengagement and unhappiness.
